Uptown Haiku

apologize
about quality of cigarette
– does not need light

granite rock pile
no clear purpose
but to gawk at

one two three four five
six seven eight nine ten eleven
who knows what comes next

driver listens intently
that he can’t clarify
only intrigues more

didn’t start the fire…
toasted mallows obviously
happy days

Jerome Berglund

Jerome Berglund graduated from USC’s Cinema program and spent a picaresque decade in the entertainment industry before returning to the midwest where he was born and raised. Since then he has worked as everything from dishwasher to paralegal, night watchman to assembler of heart valves.  Jerome has exhibited many haiku, senryu and haiga online and in print, most recently in the Asahi Shimbun, Failed Haiku, Scarlet Dragonfly, and Cold Moon Journal.
