Stairway to Where?

But what is so special about these stairs? The stairs of a hospital. Every 20 steps up, you see a different scenario. You see different groups of individuals, each in their own distinctive roles. Some have eyes full of hope, with emotions naked. Others have blank faces, but minds full of prayer. Very much a theatre of life itself, with multiple dramas unfolding.

However poignant the stories, these stairs have witnessed them all. The tears of happiness, the chants of prayers, the despairs of a mother, the agonies of loss, through the storms and through the sunshines, these stairs had been there every time.

Sometimes as a seat for he who had just been orphaned, or sometimes supporting the heavy legs of a grieving parent. As I walked up the stairs, with lights gradually dimming, I pondered – What if these stairs could speak? How many stories could we have known!
